UK News Site: Dying Mi5 agent admits to killing Princess Di

If true, this news is seismic.
Neon Nettle is a UK-based independent (i.e., non-corporate) alternate online news magazine. It describes itself as:

“a free independent news source created by people for people, not corporations. We gather news and information from the web and present them to our viewers in the most ‘easy to digest’ way possible, we adhere to all copyright laws and honor our aggregated content by citing our sources and authorship . . . .

At Neon Nettle, we believe the mainstream has become less valid as it continues its on going practices of censorship and narratives. We appreciate that there are aspects of our articles that you won’t agree with, but that’s ok, in fact we encourage it! If you don’t agree with something then leave your thoughts in our comment section or even write a counter article and if relevant enough, we will happily publish.”

A perusal of Neon Nettle’s page shows articles that fit the “alternate news” label, but are not hoaxes. Some examples:
Below is, verbatim and in its entirety, the Neon Nettle article of June 19, 2017 by Jay Greenberg, “Dying Mi5 Agent Admits to Killing Princess Diana in Deathbed Confession“.

A dying British Intelligence agent has made a series of stunning confessions after being told that he only has a matter of weeks to live by doctors, including that he was tasked with the murder of Princess Diana.

80-year-old John Hopkins is a retired Mi5 operative who worked as a hit-man for UK Government and claims to have carried out 23 assassinations between 1973 and 1999.

Hopkins was a 38-year veteran and claims that his job often involved discretely assassinating individuals who “posed a threat to national security”.

During his time serving the United Kingdom, he trained extensively as a mechanical engineer and munitions expert and claims to be “seasoned” in unconventional murders involving poisons and chemicals.

The retired British assassin says he worked as part of a cell of seven operatives who were trusted to conduct political assassinations during a period he describes as “when MI5 operated with less external oversight”.

Many of his top secret cell’s victims were politicians, journalists, activists, and union leaders.

Mr. Hopkins claims that Princess Diana was the only women he ever killed, adding that; “She was the only target where the order came directly from the Royal family.”

When asked about how he felt about taking the life of The People’s Princess, he said he felt “ambivalent” about her death, describing her as “a beautiful, kind-hearted woman” who had her life cut tragically short but that “she was also placing the British Crown at risk”, saying:

“The Royal Family had evidence that she was planning to divorce Charles.”

“She knew too many Royal secrets. She had a huge grudge and she was going to go public with all sorts of wild claims.”

“My boss told me she had to die – he’d received orders directly from Prince Philip – and we had to make it look like an accident.”

“I’d never killed a woman before, much less a princess, but I obeyed orders. I did it for Queen and Country.”

He claims the operation was run under strict control from Buckingham Palace in direct cooperation with the mainstream media.

The high-level conspiracy involved collusion between the media and Palace to “square their stories, make sure everybody was on the same page. It was a well-run operation.”

Speaking about the conspirators in the operation, Hopkins said:

“British journalists all answer to editors who answer to oligarchs who all want knighthoods from the crime family at Buckingham Palace.”

“There is no free press in Britain,”

“We got away with murder.”

After being told that he only has a short time left to live from his doctors, Hopkins said he will spend his final weeks at home, but admitted that he expects to be arrested after his admissions, or even silenced, saying:

“I can’t say that I care an awful lot.”

“If they try to take me out, they’ll be doing me a favor now.”

He explained that he would be “long-gone” should an investigation be opened as it would “take forever” and be “very complicated” due to the limited records on the operations, adding that “most of my colleagues are already dead”.

Hopkins claims that the main conspirator in the murder of Princess Diana was Prince Philip, but said that he “will never be charged with anything, of course”.

“If Prince Philip ever let himself be analyzed by a psychiatrist I’m sure he’d be diagnosed a psychopath. He has all the dark triad traits.”

Should this case ever be investigated, the most important witness would be Mr. Hopkins boss who apparently died of a heart attack in “the early 2000s”.

When Hopkins was asked why he didn’t expose the plot earlier or refuse the job at the time, he explained:

“MI5 agents swear allegiance to the Crown.”

“We can’t be impartial when it comes to the Royal family.”

“At best I would have been done for treason, at worst Philip would have designed a grisly fate for me.”

  1. Of course she was murdered. Again, there is simply too much evidence proving – you could start with the tunnel cameras – all pointing to the wall (where they would not have been positioned otherwise), then there is the ridiculous ambulance traversal time – 3 hours or something to get her to a hospital far afield of the accident site where a level 1 trauma hospital was minutes away. The list goes on. Shills like the guy above "Emmanuel Goldstein" – who are obviously working in service to the lie always have their pat statements at the ready. But, with an ounce of intuition and tons of data, you can't really go wrong. Karma will out as they say.

  2. Jim Fetzer's modus operandi is to promote fake news…

There was no truth to the story, which originated with YourNewsWire, a fake news site. As is often the case with fake news, the article lacked critical details such as when and where the confession occurred or how the purported assassination took place, and no other credible news outlet (or even tabloid) reported the story.

The MI5 agent deathbed confession story was not the first of its type proffered by YourNewsWire, a site known for promoting baseless conspiracy theories.

  3. If this confession is not true, one has to explain why it's being made.

    The options seem to be:

    1. Hopkins is insane
    2. Hopkins is putting himself in the frame to protect someone else
    3. Hopkins is telling the truth

Clearly, the comment about divorce is wrong, but perhaps an old, terminally ill man has confused/conflated the divorce with Diana's intention to marry Dodi Fayed. The confession can't entirely be dismissed on the grounds of an error in chronology: bear in mind that Hopkins claims to have been an operative-he would not have been party to discussions of the whys and wherefores.

Hopkins might be insane, but the basic narrative contours are close to those sketched by John Morgan and Alan Power, so insanity seems an outside possibility.

If Hopkins was not an assassin for the British security services, then everything is moot. If he was, then there is a strong likelihood that he was either involved in or knew about the Diana murder. If anyone doubts that Diana was indeed murdered, consideration of the evidence unearthed over the last 20 years is a sobering exercise.

So is Hopkins telling the truth or is he covering for someone? If he's taking the blame for someone still alive, this could have been done without pointing the finger at Prince Philip. That seems more like settling a personal grievance.

On balance, it seems more likely that Hopkins is doing what he says he's doing, but he might also be trying to exculpate some people still living. Saying that everyone else is dead might be credible for an event of 50 years ago; it's far less believable of 1997.

Interestingly, Hopkins doesn't seem to have any remorse; neither is he coming clean on other politically motivated assassinations in which he might have participated.

He does seem to think that his line of work was justifiable by obedience to the Crown-no more valid a defense here than at Nuremberg. Yet fingering Philip does suggest that Hopkins regarded Diana's murder as lying somewhat outside normal parameters, and in respect of which Philip was specifically and directly the instigator.

Those doubting Philip's proximity to the British intelligence services need to do some more research.

  4. I believe she was murdered by the Powers That Be, but I don't believe this confession. For one thing, she was already divorced. I'd think her murderer would know that. Also, the Royal Family itself are not in charge of anything, let alone MI5. Their official Household, made up of Lords and Ladies and people in very high places, has much more political power than they do. The Royals themselves pretty much do as they are told, just like the rest of us.

  5. Th only problem I have with this article is that Diana and Charles were already divorced and John Hopkins supposedly says, ” ‘The Royal Family had evidence that she was planning to divorce Charles.’ ”
