In Plato’s Republic, Socrates describes how a society could rationalize the existence of different classes of society by using what has been translated as a “noble” or “royal” lie.[1] What Socrates threw out, somewhat half-seriously, was something closer to a founding myth, which like religious myths are either prehistoric (e.g., Dreamtime, Valhalla, Garden of Eden) or ahistoric (e.g., certain apocryphal stories concerning the beginnings of modern religions that are not documented in the contemporary historical record). There are advantages to such myths, of course, such as the instilling of societal cohesion and moral purpose—as long as they don’t contradict the actual historical record. But when such “noble lies” on a massive scale contradict or violate true historical events in the modern era for nefarious purposes, they acquire a very sinister purpose.
Lying is a trait exhibited by leaders throughout history, but it was once mainly used to achieve a tactical advantage, as in betrayal of foes in Roman times, or the acquisition and wielding of power by nobles, as in Machiavelli’s time. But a massively false historical narrative foisted on the people of Rome or any other ancient civilization by its own rulers is not to be found. Roman legions may have been sent out to defend the borders of the realm, but they never did so on the basis of a gargantuan false flag or lie to trick the citizens of Rome.
To create a mass lie requires a mass media, and until the late 1800’s this would have been impossible. However, with the rise of national newspapers and newspaper chains—and then, of course, electronic media—the ability to convince a nation’s citizens of an alternative historical reality became more of a possibility. Arguably the first example of this was the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana harbor in 1898. At the time, a cadre of powerful “war hawks”, including Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Cabot Lodge and strident voices in the media such as William Randolph Hearst, were pushing for the United States to assert its imperialist ambitions in the Pacific and Caribbean and were both secretly and not-so-secretly maneuvering the United States into a war with Spain over Cuba and Philippines and other Pacific Islands. While there is still controversy over who was responsible for blowing up the battleship, which had been cordially received by Spanish authorities and harbored peacefully for several weeks in Havana Harbor without incident, there is strong circumstantial evidence that the pro-imperialists in the United States were involved.[2] The Hearst newspaper chain and other large pro-war papers such as Pulitzer’s New York World immediately pushed the fake narrative that Spain planted the mine and hammered home the slogan “Remember the Maine, To Hell with Spain”. Eventually, and with some reluctance, President McKinley was swayed by the popular wave and led the Unites States into the Spanish-American war.
The use of the mass media to propagandize for war was dramatically increased in World Wars I and II. This was contemporaneous with the rise of behaviorism in psychology, fueled by the conditioning experiments of Pavlov and Watson that demonstrated the means by which behavior could be controlled.[3] Once John Pierpont Morgan gained control of the major newspapers in the United States in 1915,[4] he immediately began pushing for American involvement in World War I with lurid tales of German soldiers cutting off the arms of Belgian schoolchildren and crucifying Belgian nuns. The famous lawyer Clarence Darrow offered $1000 to anyone who could prove such nonsense … and, of course, never paid out a dime.[5] But, eventually, the U.S. Congress and American public, treated to false information about the sinking of the Lusitania and a German-Mexican plan to retake the American Southwest, gave Morgan his war. The Nazi propagandist Goebbels in Germany applied the term “The Big Lie” in reference to British wartime propaganda, but the Germans allegedly did their share of propagandizing in “Operation Himmler”, which blamed the destruction of a border radio tower and other skirmishes on Poland in 1939, thereby justifying the German invasion of the latter and provoking Britain and France into all-out war.[6]
All of the mass lies up to the end of World War II were mostly a distortion of real but somewhat nebulous historical events. As the 20th century progressed, a new type of mass lie was invented—involving not the interpretation of history but the actual creation of historical events. To create history, one must first produce a momentous fictitious event that can be realistic enough to fool enough of the public when coupled with a slick selling of the false narrative. The merging of diabolical politics with Hollywood special effects and increasingly sophisticated computer technology made all of this possible. The first pure creation of history occurred in the form of the Apollo moon landings and returns, which could not be successfully performed in 1969 and still cannot today because of, among other things, the near-impossibility of withstanding the massive radiation threat posed by the Van Allen belts and the technological difficulties in blasting off from the surface of a remote planetary body with substantial gravity.[7] Yet, by 1969 Hollywood had developed cinematic techniques that, although still amateurish and full of mistakes, seemed real enough when sold to an American public that had at that time around 70% confidence in the trustworthiness of the mainstream media.[8] Indeed, it has long been alleged that Stanley Kubrick, the famous Hollywood director of 2001: A Space Odyssey, was recruited for the very purpose of creating a fictitious moon landing.[9]
Apollo was followed in the early part of the 21st century with major staged events, including 1) an aerial attack replete with large, sophisticated airplanes—supposedly flown by untrained pilots at low-altitude approaching the speed of sound—that crashed into the strongest buildings ever built by mankind and brought them down in a matter of a few minutes (September 11); school mass-shootings by “crazed” youth at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut and Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida,; and sensational explosions at world-famous events (e.g., the Boston Marathon bombing). These faux historical events employed sophisticated video techniques (real-time video compositing of planes hitting the second World Trade Center Tower) and computer software (fake information inserted onto FAA screens during the aircraft hijacking drill coinciding with the tower collapses on September 11). It didn’t matter that the video feeds on September 11 were incredibly flawed and amateurish, showing huge aircraft with fiberglass and aluminum noses disappearing stealthily into the towers or, in one case, even passing through the second tower intact;[10] or that the cell phone calls from American Airlines 77 (later shown to have never taken off from Dulles International) were impossible to make. It didn’t matter that there were Hollywood special effects galore (i.e., fake blood and amputations at the Boston Marathon bombing and elsewhere) or virtual bullets that disappeared into thin air during the mass shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand[11] or a host of other bloopers. The official narratives were replayed over and over again on Western media to stamp the official narrative into the minds of an unsuspecting public. Many of these staged events also took advantage of planned drills to provide a large numbers of crisis actors and a “cast of thousands” (more Hollywood) to further promote the narrative. That there were drills and simulations running concurrently with the staged events is beyond doubt given the marquee sign, sign-in sheets, and FEMA manual for the drill at Sandy Hook[12] and the loudspeaker messages and newspaper accounts of a drill at Boston[13] and the videotaped dress rehearsals at Douglas High[14]—not to mention the aircraft hijacking drills on September 11.[15]
Perhaps the greatest of all fictitious events is the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021, still ongoing. One may accept that there is a SARS-COVID-2 virus (although this has been debated in some quarters) and that it has a certain low-level of lethality (bordering on the seasonal flu.) But, as a classic “pandemic”, COVID-19 is a fiction because it can only be called such by the World Health Organization’s revised 2009 definition, which excluded the need for a pandemic to “cause enormous numbers of death and illness”, thereby allowing virtually any seasonal infection that crosses national borders to be called a pandemic if authorities so desire. [16] Even if one accepts the COVID death tolls spewed out by the World Health Organization worldwide, then the total of less than six million or so world-wide COVID-19 deaths by the end of 2021 was less than .1% of the world’s population, a far cry from the 3% who died during the 1918-1919 Spanish flu.[17] But there is every reason not to accept the official numbers, since the worldwide death rate remained unchanged at .076 (7.6 per thousand) from 2019 (pre-COVID) to 2020 (post-COVID).[18] From the outset, the controlled data from the Diamond Princess cruise liner (where 13 of 3700 mostly elderly passengers in a very confined location with minimal treatments available died) and the USS Roosevelt (where only one of almost 6000 younger enlisted and officer personnel in a similar situation supposedly died of COVID) proved that COVID-19 was not a dire threat to humanity.[19] It was further confirmed early on that COVID-19 was easily treatable by low-cost and widely available drugs such as Ivermectin.[20] But if the general public got wind of all this, how could all the lockdowns and restrictions and risky experimental vaccines be sold to the public? So, the global elites mobilized a large campaign of 1) false scientific reports, 2) false media stories (no, Virginia, the hospitals were not overflowing with COVID patients or running out of oxygen or ventilators), bogus causes of deaths (whatever became of the annual influenza toll and major cardiac and respiratory and other major death sources?), rewriting of medical textbooks (what, no such thing as natural or herd immunity?), etc. While there may still be arguments in some quarters over the reality of COVID-19, there is little doubt who benefited from it all—coercive governments, financial elites, and monopolistic social media.
Tragically, those at the highest levels of government and society view mass lying and the creation of venal myths as a wicked game. William Casey, CIA chief under President Reagan, supposedly boasted how “We will have succeeded when everything the American people believes is false”.[21] According to the journalist Ron Susskind, a senior Bush administration official—allegedly Karl Rove—derisively referred to truth-seekers during the Iraq War as a “reality-based community” and claimed that “We [in the Bush Administration] make our own reality.”[22] On the other side of the political spectrum, high-ranking governmental officials such as Ben Rhodes, who led destabilization efforts in the Middle East under President Obama, and Jake Sullivan, current National Security advisor to President Biden, have joked in emails about all the lies they pull over the American public.[23] Arguably the most audacious of the truth assassins is Phillip Zelikow, a former high-ranking American national security advisor and prominent member of the neoconservatives who pushed for American control of the Middle East and authored the preposterous 911 Commission Report—allegedly before the Commission even met.[24] Among Zelikow’s expertise were publications on—no kidding—the creation of public “presumptions” (myths).[25]
The powerful film documentary disputing the official narrative of the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing in 1985 was entitled “A Noble Lie”, based on a great deal of expert testimony that the building was blown up from the inside.[26] There was, of course, nothing ‘noble” about the Oklahoma City narrative or any of the others that have been designed to lead Americans and other Western nation into endless wars, disarming of its citizens, and curtailment of individual liberties. But when will the recent blasphemies of history—and especially the false creations of history—be removed from the history books? When will schoolchildren learn that we never went to the moon, that there were no planes or Arab hijackers on September 11, that Sandy Hook Elementary School was abandoned long before the “mass shooting” drill on December 14, 2012, that the bullets and blood in Christchurch were all fake, that there never was a true COVID-19 pandemic, etc.? When, when, when?
Modern humans have lived on this planet for perhaps 75,000 years, civilizations have been around for less than 10,000 years, and the Renaissance and Enlightenment with their colossal artistic and scientific achievements date back but a few hundred years. In the meantime, humans have overpopulated the Earth, degraded its water, land, and air, and exhausted much if not most of its available natural resources. Through it all, the shining justification for human existence and our distinctive superiority over all other species has been our ability and desire to discover the truth about the physical world around us and the record of our existence. The search for truth is the fundamental basis for all moral behavior, because if no serious effort to determine the truth is made beforehand that action is inherently immoral, regardless of any other utilitarian or deontological rationale. So, if the mass of humanity permits the rich and powerful among us (the “people of the lie”) to decide for us that historical truth—and now even scientific truth in the age of COVID–[27] are merely expendable nuisances and that science and history and morality are nothing more than artificial realities, what, then, is the purpose of humanity?

While feminists and left-wing activists nationwide decry the leaked Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision draft as an attack on women’s rights, the real issue is not about women or even about abortion. What happens next with Roe v. Wade could help steer the US back toward what the founding fathers intended – a Court that keeps majoritarianism in check as it upholds the Constitution.
When debating issues such as Roe v. Wade, it is important that we all first and foremost understand that America is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. In a democracy, the minority of a population are always subject to majority rule – no matter how morally bankrupt that majority may be or may become. The founders feared that very scenario, and thanks to the wisdom and foresight of men like James Madison, our system of government doesn’t function that way. Instead, we have a system of checks and balances under republican governance, where the minority is not at the mercy of the majority. Over time, this essential characteristic of our government has been diluted and sometimes outright ignored, as with the original Roe v. Wade decision. If the judges in 1973 had respected the role of the Court in relation to the Constitution, abortion law would have stayed at the state level. For a small group of judges to make Roe’s case the law of the land, was, in fact, anti-Constitutional.
Nearly fifty years later, the Supreme Court has decided to reverse this bad decision based on these exact constitutional grounds. Of course, the social consequences of righting such a wrong will be further civil unrest. America is already a very divided country, and our political and cultural division has put increasing pressure on state governors and legislators to use their full constitutional powers. I believe this is for the best in the long term, as it will decentralize some of the federal powers that never should have been established. What’s unfortunate is that it has to happen over a hot-button cultural issue. Protest fatigue is real.
Depending on which side of the abortion debate you’re on, you might be happy or angered by California Governor Newsom’s emotional vow to make his state more abortion-friendly than ever before. By contrast, the more conservative-leaning states will likely greatly restrict or outright ban abortions. But both of those scenarios represent exactly the way our system is meant to work. Because the US is a large and religiously diverse country, and thus encompasses an array of personal beliefs, inflammatory issues such as abortion are usually best decided at the state level. James Madison described this in Federalist 10 when he wrote:
“The influence of factious leaders may kindle a flame within their particular States, but will be unable to spread a general conflagration through the other States. A religious sect may degenerate into a political faction in a part of the Confederacy; but the variety of sects dispersed over the entire face of it must secure the national councils against any danger from that source.
Thus, we have state laws and federal laws, but the ideal vision for America is for state law to govern citizen’s lives in most circumstances, not federal law.”
One of the great things about America is that if you don’t like the politics or laws of a particular state, you can get up and move. And we do. Since 2020, we’ve seen a steady migration of people moving to states that more closely align with their political, cultural, and world views. If this trend intensifies in the coming years, as we are simultaneously returning power back to the states, such as with the repeal of Roe v Wade, America will come to look very different even within one generation.
The knee-jerk reaction might be to presume that we will be an even more divided country than we are now, but in my view, limiting federal power will lead to peace and compromise nationwide.
Let’s not forget that once upon a time, ALL Americans – red, blue, and purple – believed in and wanted less government, not more. I could write a book about why we regressed, but what matters now is that we return to our heritage. We have a shot at doing just that with solutions such as the Convention of States. Under Article V of the US Constitution, such a convention can legally be called for the purpose of proposing amendments and limiting federal power. It would be a win-win for all Americans if at least thirty-four states came together to make it happen, and now would be the perfect time. Given the Biden administration’s push for more federal control, a Convention of States would help to counter some of the overreach.
As Americans, it seems, we are gradually waking up to realize that we’ve been sleeping passengers for far too long on a ship we are meant to steer.

The idea that an actor is “fake” simply because he is a politician really has no basis in truth. I WOULD agree that actors make good politicians in that they are there to convince their contingency of their agenda and the better they can do that, the more their followers believe them. And THAT is precisely what actors do on stage. They convince the audience they are who they say they are. He/she is just playing another role in life. That does not make it fake…it’s just another role. We all play some role in life. It’s just what we do. But I would posit it’s not who we are any more than any actor on a stage playing someone other than himself. If I follow your logic, we are all fakes because we call ourselves writers, accountants, plumbers, carpenters, artists et al.

In an interview with the National Geographic, Tony Fauci made comments about “alternative views” of the origin of the coronavirus. But he was really talking about all unorthodox medical information:
“Anybody can claim to be an expert even when they have no idea what they’re talking about—and it’s very difficult for the general public to distinguish. So, make sure the study is coming from a reputable organization that generally gives you the truth—though even with some reputable organizations, you occasionally get an outlier who’s out there talking nonsense. If something is published in places like New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Nature, Cell, or JAMA—you know, generally that is quite well peer-reviewed because the editors and the editorial staff of those journals really take things very seriously.”

So, Tony, here is a very serious statement from a former editor of one of those “places,” the New England Journal of Medicine:
“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. And here is another one, from the editor-in-chief of the prestigious journal, The Lancet, founded in 1823:

Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness…”
“The apparent endemicity of bad research behaviour is alarming. In their quest for telling a compelling story, scientists too often sculpt data to fit their preferred theory of the world. Or they retrofit hypotheses to fit their data. Journal editors deserve their fair share of criticism too. We aid and abet the worst behaviours. Our acquiescence to the impact factor fuels an unhealthy competition to win a place in a select few journals. Our love of ‘significance’ pollutes the literature with many a statistical fairy-tale…Journals are not the only miscreants. Why stop there? Let’s consult a late public-health expert whose shoes Fauci would have been lucky to shine: Dr. Barbara Starfield, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
On July 26, 2000, the US medical community received a titanic shock, when Starfield revealed her findings on healthcare in America.
The Starfield review, “Is US health really the best in the world?”, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), came to the following conclusion, among others:
Every year in the US, correctly prescribed, FDA approved medical drugs kill 106,000 people. Thus, every decade, these drugs kill more than a MILLION people.
On the heels of Starfield’s astonishing findings, media reporting was perfunctory, and it soon dwindled. No major newspaper or television network mounted an ongoing “Medicalgate” investigation. Neither the US Department of Justice nor federal health agencies undertook prolonged remedial action.
All in all, those parties who could have made effective steps to correct this ongoing tragedy preferred to ignore it.
On December 6-7, 2009, I interviewed Dr. Starfield by email. Here is an excerpt from that interview.
Q: What has been the level and tenor of the response to your findings, since 2000?
A: The American public appears to have been hoodwinked into believing that more interventions lead to better health, and most people that I meet are completely unaware that the US does not have the ‘best health in the world’.
Q: In the medical research community, have your medically-caused mortality statistics been debated, or have these figures been accepted, albeit with some degree of shame?
A: The findings have been accepted by those who study them. There has been only one detractor, a former medical school dean, who has received a lot of attention for claiming that the US health system is the best there is and we need more of it. He has a vested interest in medical schools and teaching hospitals (they are his constituency).
Q: Have health agencies of the federal government consulted with you on ways to mitigate the [devastating] effects of the US medical system?
A: No.
Q: Are you aware of any systematic efforts, since your 2000 JAMA study was published, to remedy the main categories of medically caused deaths in the US?
A: No systematic efforts; however, there have been a lot of studies. Most of them indicate higher rates [of death] than I calculated.
Q: Did your 2000 JAMA study sail through peer review, or was there some opposition to publishing it?
A: It was rejected by the first journal that I sent it to, on the grounds that ‘it would not be interesting to readers’!

Physicians are trained to pay exclusive homage to peer-reviewed published drug studies. These doctors unfailingly ignore the fact that, if medical drugs are killing a million Americans per decade, the heraldic published studies on which those drugs are based must be fraudulent. In other words, the medical literature is completely unreliable, and impenetrable.
WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE TWO ESTEEMED MEDICAL EDITORS I QUOTED ABOVE—MARCIA ANGELL AND RICHARD HORTON—ARE SAYING.
If you know a doctor who enjoys sitting up on his high horse dispensing the final word on modern medicine, you might give him the quotes from Dr. Angell and Dr. Horton, instruct him to read them, and suggest he get in touch with Angell and Horton, in order to discover what has happened to his profession.
As in: DISASTER.
But please, continue to believe everything Fauci is saying. He must be right about the “pandemic.” After all, he has a very important position, and he’s on television.
So what if his policies have torpedoed the economy and devastated and destroyed lives across the country?
So what if he accepted, without more than a glance, that fraud Neil Ferguson’s computer projection of 500,000 deaths in the UK and two million in the US? In 2005, Ferguson said 200 million people could die from bird flu. The final official tally was a few hundred.
So what?
Fauci has an important position, and he’s on television.

What a superb essay. Because “they control the media”, reality as we have known it is now a political manipulation to which those who depend upon TV and newspapers as their prime source of information are victims. And of recent, few would argue the repeal of the Smith-Mundt Act (which they mis-labeled as some kind of up-dating) is the excuse used to allow these lies and deception.
But, the final paragraph is the real kicker:
“So, if the mass of humanity permits the rich and powerful among us (the “people of the lie”) to decide for us that historical truth—and now even scientific truth in the age of COVID–[27] are merely expendable nuisances and that science and history and morality are nothing more than artificial realities, what, then, is the purpose of humanity?”
It’s actually not that historical or scientific truth no longer exist. They’ve just been hidden (obfuscated with lies so huge they almost seem like truth) temporarily until the good people come to their senses. So, the purpose of humanity….each of us individually and as a collective consciousness of good….is to reveal the truth as best we can and refuse with all we possess to become part of the lie. \Maybe we need something along the lines of a Peoples Truth Convention…..and if Trump is with us, there’s a damn good use of his money.
