Jonathan Turley, Report: United States Ranks Last In Media Trust

Jonathan Turley

From Digital News Report 2021 “Executive Summary”

The plunging level of trust reflects the loss of the premier news organizations to a type of woke journalism. We have have been discussing how writerseditorscommentators, and academics have embraced rising calls for censorship and speech controls, including President-elect Joe Biden and his key advisers. Even journalists are leading attacks on free speech and the free press.  This includes academics rejecting the very concept of objectivity in journalism in favor of open advocacy. Columbia Journalism Dean and New Yorker writer Steve Coll has denounced how the First Amendment right to freedom of speech was being “weaponized” to protect disinformation.

Columbia Journalism Dean and New Yorker Write Steve Coll

Likewise, the University of North Carolina recently offered an academic chair in Journalism to New York Times’ Nikole Hannah-Jones. While Hannah-Jones was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for her writing on The 1619 Project, she has been criticized for her role in purging dissenting views from the New York Times pages and embracing absurd anti-police conspiracy theories. Even waiting for the facts is viewed as unethical today by journalism professors who demand that reporters make political or social declarations through their coverage.

The New York Times caves to the left for publishing an opinion

One of the lowest moments came with the New York Times’ mea culpa for publishing an opinion column by a conservative senator.  The New York Times was denounced by many of us for its  cringing apology after publishing a column by Sen. Tom Cotton (R, Ark.). and promising not to publish future such columns. It will not publish a column from a Republican senator on protests in the United States but it will publish columns from one of the Chinese leaders crushing protests for freedom in Hong Kong. Cotton was arguing that the use of national guard troops may be necessary to quell violent riots, noting the historical use of this option in past protests. This option was used most recently after the Capitol riot.

Almost on the one-year anniversary of its condemning its own publication of Cotton (and forcing out its own editor), the New York Times published an academic columnist who previously defended the killing of conservative protesters. Over at the Washington Post this week, the newspaper promoted a columnist, Karen Attiah, who last summer caused an outrage after she tweeted “White women are lucky that we are just calling them Karens. And not calling for revenge.”

No more “even-handed, both sideism” journalism

Given this trend, it is little surprise that viewers no longer trust the media. They have watched as stories ranging from Hunter Biden to the origins of the pandemic have been aggressively censored by Big Tech and blacked out by journalists. The problem is that this echo journalism works for some in the media even if it ultimately destroys the profession as a whole. It is a journalistic version of Hardin’s Tragedy of the Commons where everyone acts for their immediate benefit as “the inherent logic of the commons remorselessly generates tragedy.”

    1. I find it quite surprising no one has commented on this. BUT, after I posted it, I realized a class action can spend years in the courts. And time is something this nation does not have. I now see it strictly as a political move; little different than Warp Speed that was likely the same and has now caused irreversible damage to countless individuals. My hope continues for this country, but it is not cradled in the hands of someone who would put political ambitions ahead of the health and lives of his country men and women.

  2. Speaking of fake news. I was looking at the court case in CT with the sandy hook people against Jones and Halbig.
I know Halbig was dropped from this case back in April but noticed these new posts to the case – attached.
Could anyone help explain this to me better, Looks like some type of deposition needed to be taken and it also implies a payment made by Halbig to be released from the case. If I’m reading this correctly. Any light on this would help. Thanks

  5. Like many things about our nation, the lie of a free press has been going on for a long time:

“It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion.”
    – Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda
    – – – – – – – – – – – – –
“Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.” – Richard Salant, former President of CBS News
    – – – – – – – – – – – – –
There are 1,500 Newspapers; 1,100 Magazines; 9,000 Radio Stations; 1,500 TV Stations; 2,400 Publishers….ALL owned by 5 corporations about 300 executives, that control 90% of what 300,000,000+ Americans SEE, HEAR, and READ.
    – – – – – – – – – – – – –
“In March 1915, the J.P. Morgan interests…got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press …

They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. An agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies, and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers.”
    – U.S. Congressman Oscar Callaway, 1917

“There is no such thing… in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with…

The business of the Journalist is to destroy truth; To lie outright; To pervert; To vilify; To fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread.

You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals for rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance.

Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”

    – John Swinton, the former chief of staff of the New York Times, called by his peers, “The Dean of his profession,” in a speech at the New York Press Club.

“For all major news sources to agree on the substance of virtually all important stories, for decades, is completely unnatural and absurd. That agreement must be engineered, concocted, and invented to serve a hidden agenda of power and control.” – Anonymous

    1. Right there with ya EJ. But you forgot one . “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.” William Casey – Former CIA Director.
I think the program is complete.

      1. Yeah Salty, had to stop somewhere :-))

I have a folder of posting information on my desktop and it is FULL with some much good stuff.

        Mike nailed it with this:

“Just look at us. Everything is backwards, everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, psychiatrists destroy minds, scientists destroy truth, major media destroys information, religions destroy spirituality and governments destroy freedom.”
        ― Michael Ellner

Part of the reality of the controllers is their basic agenda has been revealed for over 100 years. Unfortunately the mind control of the media, movies, TV, etc. has setup most Americans with a false narrative of reality.
        – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Two of the oldest in my folder:

“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day.”
        – Theodore Roosevelt 1906
        – – – – – – – – – – – – –
“Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws.”
        – Amschel Mayer Rothschild 1838

    2. Excellent post. I would edit the 1st sentence to: “Like the belief that US elections are fair and honest, the lie of a free and honest press has been going on for a long time.”

      1. Thanks. Editorial decisions for me usually hover over my desire to communicate an idea and the danger of putting too much out there. Jim has created a certain comfort here that allows for higher levels of articulation without any PC cop nonsense.

My experience out in blogoland the past few years has been mostly disheartening. Compared to when I was in my 20’s and we would read books, go to meetings and lectures, etc. and discuss them in coffee house settings or siting around our houses with herbs instead of cocktails and it all seemed so vibrant, so alive.

At the popular blogs like Brietbart, Black Listed News, The Donald, etc. the young people show a mob mentality rather then explorers of consciousness. I recently go banned from The Donald for posting some factual quotes about the Sabitian Frankist/Zionist agenda dating back a hundred years. Not hating just sharing.

Dozens and dozens of down votes and notice from a Moderator that I was banned for being anti you know what. I posted this in reply:

Shulamit Aloni, former Israeli minister, admits that the holocaust and the “anti-Semite” accusation are used to manipulate those who criticize Zionists. – – From the 8/14/2002 democracy Now! broadcast.

        Crickets.

So IMO this false knowledge that young people have has been acquired not from face to fact interaction with others but rather a digital dialog deception. It has a narcissistic smell to it where people are unable to say they are wrong or sorry or even accept others view points different from theirs.

Anyway, there is soooo much of our reality that is Kabuki nonsense it is growing more difficult to find that line between fiction and fact. Certain narratives are still being sold…9/11 Middle East terrorists etc.

  6. One of the initial beginnings of this is the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird. Their billion dollar attempt to control USA media has lead to this. The USA is THE most corrupt nation on earth. Its not even 3rd World anymore, its in a class of depravity never before seen in the past 5,000 years of recorded human history.

    1. Hey Don blame those alphabet boys in Langley Virginia. They get their marching orders from the London lads at the Tavistock Institute. John Coleman or Daniel Estulin had it right all along.
And for a rabbit hole dive , the Tavistock Group based in my country of birth was founded by Joe Lewis (not of boxing frame) but a London Jew and guess who’s a dear friend ? George Soros. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tavistock_Group

The Untied State of America is just another British colony that had the spine and brains to stand up against their banking /usury masters and won but give away the land and prize money for a promise of freedom.

      1. So very few keyboard commandos at all the popular “alt” sights NEVER talk about this:

In 1604, a group of leading UK politicians, businessmen, merchants, manufacturers and bankers, met and formed a corporation called the Virginia Company in anticipation of the imminent influx of white Europeans into the North American continent.

The Virginia Company comprised of two branches, the London Company and the Plymouth or New England Company.

After the original American colonies won their ‘independence’ and an ‘independent’ country was formed after 1783, the Virginia Company simply changed its name to… the United States of America.

You see there are two USAs, or rather a USA and a usA. The united states of America with a lower case ‘u’ and ‘s’ are the lands of the various states. These lands, as we have seen, are still owned by the British Crown as the head of the old Virginia Company.

Then there is the United States of America, capital ‘U’ and ‘S’, which is the 68 square miles of land west of the Potomac River on which is built the federal capital, Washington DC and the District of Columbia.

Thanks to old info by the brilliant David Icke

      2. Thanks for the history lessons EJ. And your singing to the choir Sir. My late father and uncles made me comprehend at a young age that this was the case of America and when I would drop little tidbits of this history to friends relatives or coffee shop or pub radicals I met in my travels in the US , I got engaging conversation and enlightened dialogue.
But in the US Navy it was a swimming against the Gulf Stream… Lol ! And later on gaslighting and being gang stalked. I would take a guess that 70% of most Americans are clueless and brain dead by choice and the rest are mind raped. And that leaves us in the 10 percentile, I don’t know yet if that’s a good or bad situation. We’ll see my friend.
