On the night of September 26, a sharp drop in pressure was recorded in line A of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline due to a hole in the pipe. In the evening of the same day, the Nord Stream control center recorded a pressure drop in both lines of the gas pipeline, the press service of the Nord Stream operator company reported.
Ulrich Lissek, a representative of the Nord Stream 2 AG pipeline operator, clarified that the pressure dropped from 105 to 7 bar due to a hole in the pipe.
The Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines pass through the exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Judging by the map published on the website of Gazprom, both branches of the Nord Stream pass near the southeastern side of Bornholm Island, while the leak is recorded to the northeast. The gas leaks occurred near the Nord Stream gas pipeline northeast of Bornholm Island, the Danish Maritime Administration said.

Shipping was restricted in the area near the pipeline.
“The destruction that occurred in one day simultaneously on three lines of offshore gas pipelines of the Nord Stream system is unprecedented. It is impossible to estimate the time frame for restoring the operability of the gas transportation infrastructure,” the report of Nord Stream AG reads.
Despite US sanctions, the Nord Stream 2 was completed in September last year, and in October, technical gas was launched along the B line. By the end of last year, both pipes were filled. Since after Moscow recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR in February, the German authorities suspended the certification of the gas pipeline, they decided to use its capacity for gas supply to the regions of Northwestern Russia.
Nord Stream has been operating since 2011. It was one of the last gas supply routes to Europe bypassing Ukraine. Since the summer of this year, pumping through the Nord Stream-1 has been reduced to 20% of the maximum capacity, up to 35 million cubic meters. Gazprom explained this by problems with gas turbines, which are serviced by Siemens. At the end of August, due to problems with the turbines, the gas supply stopped completely.
Der Tagesspiegel reported, citing sources related to the investigation of the incidents, that the cause of the incident could be sabotage.
“We cannot imagine a scenario that is not a targeted sabotage,” the publication quotes one of the participants in the investigation, which is being conducted by the federal authorities.
It is reasonably suspected that the pipeline was blown up by the special services of the United States in order to finally stop the gas supplies to Germany from Russia.
On September 27, the detachment of US Navy ships led by the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge announced the completion of work in the area of the alleged sabotage on gas pipelines. US ships completed their tasks in the Baltic Sea and were spotted heading to the Baltic Straits into the North Sea.
The group of US ships was spotted 30 kilometers from the site of the alleged sabotage on the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline and 50 kilometers from the threads of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
The incidents on the pipelines raised a lot of suspicions.Meanwhile, the energy crisis in Europe is gaining momentum, and the situation is expected to worsen as winter approaches.
